Mrs. Gardiner tells Elizabeth that she should take caution, "Seriously, I would have you be on your guard"(Austen 139). Elizabeth's aunt thinks that marriage is something that should be taken very seriously, "Yes, and I hope to engage you to be serious likewise"(Austen 140). Mrs. Gardiner seems to take Marriage as something very serious that should be well thought over. She does not want Elizabeth to pick someone if she does not think it over first. Picking someone to marry is important to the bride but also to her family.
