I got a good laugh and also some thoughts when Elizabeth said,"for he is now in the custody of his friend...(137)". It seemed to me like a contradictory statement because she says custody as if he is a prisoner but in turn still uses the word "friend". It made me think about the situation and I believe you can only be a "prisoner" if you allow yourself to be by you supposed "friends".

I took a liking to the possible foreshadowing that took place when Elizabeth is talking to her father. He is talking about Mr. Wickham and states "He is a pleasant fellow, and would jilt you creditably." Elizabeth's comment made me smile, "Thank you, sir, but a less agreeable man would satisfy me" (Austen 134). Hello she's talking about Mr. Darcy!

Grrrrrrr..... That part makes me mad! Because I absolutely detest Mr. Darcy in that part for taking "custody of his friend" and preventing him from having a perfectly caring relationship with Jane!

Yeah, finally somebody mentions the role Darcy has to play in all of this!

To Brittany

I did not notice before the foreshadowing in Elizabeth's comment to her father about marriage. I think your comment is very insightful and true. I think Elizabeth is talking about Darcy and she is not even aware of it.
